While these flowers offer fantastic displays of fall colors, other plants and trees can take your landscaping to the next level with fall-inspired textured foliage. These are some of Prewett, Read & Associates’ favorites:

Nandina Compacta
A popular choice for low-maintenance plants, nandina compacta adds both texture and color to your fall landscape. The more sun it gets, the redder the leaves will turn. The plants also produce white flowers in the spring and red berries in the winter, so they add pops of color to your landscape year-round.

Camellias
When you want more variety than warm-toned fall foliage, opt for camellias. Their exquisite flowers come in almost all colors — white, red and shades of pink. Some even have variegated blooms. Depending on the variety, camellias bloom anywhere from autumn through late winter.

Purple Fountain Grass
Let your landscape make a statement with this purple, or burgundy-colored, ornamental grass that boasts fuzzy blooms and purple seedheads. Another low-maintenance plant, purple fountain grass is a perennial that flourishes in sunny areas with well-drained soil.

Gulf Coast Muhly
This coastal ornamental grass puts on quite the show in the fall. From September through November, Gulf muhly blooms wispy, pink flowers that make the plant look almost cloud-like. A perennial, Gulf muhly is adaptable to many soil types and landscapes.

Redbud Tree
As a small ornamental deciduous tree, the redbud tree provides a nice accent to your landscape. The Forest Pansy variety flaunts pink flowers and burgundy, heart-shaped leaves. It grows best in sun with partial shade, requires little care and tolerates different soil conditions.

Japanese Maple Tree
Another small ornamental deciduous tree that livens up your landscape is the Japanese maple tree, specifically the Bloodgood variety. With scarlet-colored leaves and blackish-red bark, this tree adds extra curb appeal. To promote fall color, you’ll want to reduce watering in early fall.
